Empowering everyone everywhere.
With gender stereotypes taking dreams and lives every day, here is how we are championing a gender-sensitive and empowering world.
We aim to empower all people to realize their full potential regardless of gender.
We envision a gender sensitive world in which all genders are united and empowered.
We are committed to embracing diversity, individuality, and providing equal and accessible opportunities for all.
The Problem: Gender Stereotypes
Gender stereotypes are enforced throughout everyone’s lives and misrepresent the genders that they seek to describe. Although they seem harmless on the surface, studies have shown that gender stereotypes create an unsafe environment for children. Gender stereotypes can come in many forms, from racial insults to misrepresentation of events in the media.
Poor Mental Health
To stay "strong" and uphold traditional ideas of masculinity, many men don't ask for help leading to a suicide rate 3.54% higher than women. Gender stereotypes damage health and cost lives.
Confined Professional Development
There is a stark disparity among different genders in the workplace. For example, there are 9 men for every woman in STEM organizations. Women aren’t traditionally thought of as innovative, intelligent leaders due to classic ideas of femininity. Gender stereotypes continually perpetuate this notion.
Loss of Dreams
Gender stereotypes affect children’s life prospects by training them to only dream within the roles that align with their gender. By teaching youth to "dream small" we are holding back the collective potential of humanity.
The Gaps We're Trying to Solve
Cis Female Focused
Currently, most gender equality organizations tend to focus on cisgender females as does mainstream media. But, gender inequality affects everyone and the movement demands everyone's support in order to succeed.
Most efforts to build a gender equal future are geared towards audiences 13+. However, by this age gender stereotypes have already been ingrained and started to have damaging effects.
Generic Blanket Solutions
As organizations get larger, the same resources tend to be used throughout different countries and demographics in the hopes of achieving gender equality. These formulas overlook the vast disparity in cultures within and between communities.
The core of our solutions lies within youth-focused development. Dream Equal aims to tackle the negative ramifications gender stereotypes have on youth by focusing on the following areas.
Studies show that stereotypes start to form as early as age 6, so we tackling the program at its roots by providing elementary school programing. Our experientially and scientifically backed curricula is designed to teach kids how to break down gender boundaries.
Anyone, no matter how they identify, is welcome to any one of our programs. We are proud to fight for all genders and not just cisgender girls.
